A Personal Journey That Became a Purpose
As a working mother raising twins in Mumbai—a city that keeps everyone constantly on the move—I balanced my career, home and family responsibilities. Life was busy, but everything was going well.
Like many women, putting my own needs after everyone else's had become the norm.
Then perimenopause began.
What began with hormonal imbalance was soon followed by a growing list of health challenges—from acidity and IBS to a lung infection, sleep apnoea, vitamin deficiencies and increasing joint problems. Eventually, even bending my knees and sitting comfortably on the floor became difficult.
These challenges affected my sleep, energy, mobility and professional life. Eventually, I had to step away from my career.
I made repeated visits to different specialists—including gynaecologists, pulmonologists and orthopaedic doctors—and followed the prescribed treatments, hoping to find lasting relief.
During this time, at my daughter's insistence, I joined a breathwork programme as a last resort.
It became a turning point in my life. I discovered that the breath could be used as a practical tool to support our healing process and complement our everyday lives.
I started understanding my body, my condition and my needs more clearly. This gave me renewed hope and direction for the next phase of my life.
To me, this was inner alchemy:
Breath + Awareness + Understanding + Consistency = Inner Transformation
The breath had always been within me. What changed was the way I learned to work with it.
Five principles shaped my recovery:
No single practice created the change. It was the combination of:
Commitment + Consistency + Awareness + Surrender + Supportive Habits
Together, these principles helped me rebuild my health and confidence.
Over time, I experienced meaningful improvements in my breathing, sleep, digestion, energy, mobility and stamina.
There was a time when I could not fold my knees or sit comfortably on the floor. Today, I can practise on the mat and perform Sūrya Namaskāra, Uṣṭrāsana and several other movements that once felt beyond my capacity.
For me, these are more than physical achievements. They represent the strength, mobility and trust in my body that I gradually regained.
Most importantly, I was able to return to my professional life.
My recovery made me want to help others who did not know how or where to begin. However, I knew that recovering from my own difficulties did not automatically qualify me to guide someone else.
To support others responsibly, I needed the right knowledge and training.
I therefore trained in:
After completing my initial training, I began working with a small number of friends and members of my community.
I first understood their concerns and physical capacities. I then selected simple breathwork, yoga and supportive practices, observed their responses and modified the practices when needed.
Seeing people move more comfortably, practise with greater confidence and become more involved in their wellbeing showed me the value of individual guidance.
These experiences became the foundation of Anāmaya Sūtram:
My personal journey helps me understand the uncertainty, physical limitations and loss of confidence that can accompany health challenges. My training provides the knowledge and structure to guide others responsibly.
Anāmaya Sūtram offers personally assessed, selected and guided practices based on each individual's present condition, capacity and goals.
The power to move towards healing already lives within you. Sometimes, you simply need the right understanding, guidance and support to find your way forward.
That is the support I once needed.
And that is why Anāmaya Sūtram was born.
